Volodymyr Kozyavkin, MD, PhD



Professor, Hero of Ukraine, Honored Scientist and Technician of Ukraine. Director of the International Clinic of Rehabilitation and Rehabilitation Center “Elita”, Medical doctor in neurology and manual therapy

Volodymyr Kozyavkin was born on June 9, 1947 in Ukraine. In 1971 he graduated from Grodno Medical Institute.

Since 1989 he is the head of Lviv Rehabilitation Center "Elita", in 1996 – director of Institute for Medical Rehabilitation and since 2003 - director of the International Clinic of Rehabilitation. He is the author of a new system of rehabilitation for patients with Cerebral Palsy and some other neurological diseases.

Research conducted under the guidance of Prof. Kozyavkin formed a new perspective on Cerebral Palsy and showed the role vertebral component in the etiopathogenesis of this disease. Based on these data, a new system of medical rehabilitation has been created. Cornerstone of this system is the method of biomechanical correction of the spine.

More than 35 thousand patients from 52 countries of the world have been treated by this rehabilitation system with good long lasting results.

Volodymyr Kozyavkin is the author of over 150 publications. In 1992, he completed his dissertation work: "Manual Therapy for the Rehabilitation of Patients with Cerebral Palsy". In 1996, he completed his doctoral work: "Structural and Functional Pathology of the Spinal and Cerebral Structures in Patients with Cerebral Palsy and Rehabilitation System for Such Patients".

In 1997 he was awarded with the Order of Merit of the third degree.

In December, 1999, amongst other Ukrainian Doctors of Medicine, Prof. Volodymyr Kozyavkin, MD was awarded a State Prize in the field of Science and Techniques of Ukraine.

In 1999 Volodymyr Kozyavkin was elected professor of medical rehabilitation and balneology Kiev Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education and Institute for Medical Rehabilitation became a branch of Academy. Since 1999 more than 80 medical doctors from different regions of Ukraine every year are attending courses of postgraduate education in the Institute

In August 2001 for outstanding personal contribution in the development of medical science, the development of innovative methods of treatment and rehabilitation of patients with organic diseases of the nervous system by decree of President of Ukraine Professor Volodymyr Kozyavkin awarded the title Hero of Ukraine "with the Order of the State. In 2001 he also was awarded the Bavarian Medal "For efforts in helping children with special needs" and Order of the National Fund "Ukraine for Children" for development of new treatment methods for patients with organic lesions of the nervous system".

In 2006 he was awarded the Order of Yaroslav the Wise.

An international conference for the social adaptation and total integration of disabled people into European societies was held at the headquarters of the European Parliament in Brussels on 17th March, 2009. This conference took place under the honoured patronage of Mr. Marek Sivec, Vice-President of the European Parliament, who personally invited Professor Volodymyr Kozyavkin to present Ukrainian technologies for intensive rehabilitation.
