Gina Mirabella
United States New York
Gina is a very happy 8 year old little girl with the diagnosis of Smith-Lemli-Opitz Syndrome. Gina has physical and mental challenges because of this genetic disorder. She is unable to walk, talk, and needs full assistance for everyday living. This was our second course of treatment at the International Clinic of Rehabilitation and we are once again very pleased with the results. After Gina's first course of treatment in 2007 she made much progress. Six months after treatment Gina began drinking from a cup and no longer needed her feeding tube! We saw change for the better in her physically abilities for example; sitting better, crawling better, better head control and overall stronger quicker movements. Gina's mental awareness also showed great improvements. Her eye contact improved, her response time quickened and her overall response to her environment improved. As a result of all these improvements we decided to revisit the clinic this year 2008. By the fourth day of treatment Gina is already showing change. She is more aware of herself in a mirror, her body control is stronger and she is able to sit in a regular chair with no support for several minutes! Her legs and hands are more relaxed allowing her to use an isolated point to press buttons. These are new skills that Gina was unable to achieve prior to treatment. Gina's control of her mouth and tongue are amazingly better. She had what was called an open mouth posture, but now has so much more control of her lips, tongue and swallowing. We are extremely pleased with Gina's work here in Truskevets, and look forward to returning to the clinic next year. We are grateful to Professor Kozyavkin and his method of treatment. All his professional staff; the doctors, therapists, housekeepers, dining staff, and reception have been very helpful, professioal, and kind! Thank you very much for your help in improving Gina's quality of life!
