Social Partnership for Children’s Health
On February 2, 2008 the International Clinic of Rehabilitation held the round table “Social Partnership for Children’s Health”.
This event was arranged by Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation (www.ukraine3000.org.ua) within the framework of the Joy of Childhood – Free Movements program and was devoted to the issues of medical and social rehabilitation of disabled children.
Kateryna Yushchenko, Chairperson of the Supervisory Board of Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation, Vasyl Knyazevych, Minister of Public Health, Yuriy Pavlenko, Minister for Family, Youth and Sport, Ivan Vakarchuk, Minister of Education and Sciences, Lyudmyla Denysova, Minister of Labour and Social Policy, Tetyana Bakhtyeyeva, Chairperson of the Committee for Public Health of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Kateryna Lukyanova, Chairperson of the Sub-Committee for Family, Youth Policy, Sport, and Tourism, Serhiy Lizunov, President of TNK-BP Commerce Ltd., Sergey Dorozhkin, Vice President of TNK-BP Commerce Ltd., Volodymyr Martynyuk, Chief Children’s Neurologist of the Ministry of Public Health of Ukraine, Volodymyr Kozijavkin, General Director of the International Clinic of Rehabilitation, Andriy Miroshnychenko, Councilor of the Chairperson of the Supervisory Board of Ukraine 3000International Charitable Foundation, Oleksandr Maksymchuk, Chairperson of the Foundation Board of Directors, Vira Pavlyuk, Director of the Medical Department of the Foundation, physicians, and representatives of government authorities and business took part in the round table.

The round table participants have discussed a number of issues related to the provision of medical and social rehabilitation to children with special needs, and children suffering from cerebral palsy in particular. The main topic of speeches presented at the round table is the necessity of joining of efforts of the government, NGOs, business structures, and medical officers for the systematic approach to the resolution of urgent problems of children with disabilities as well as the creation of conditions so that such children were provided with quality rehabilitation services and social adaptation opportunities.

Within the framework of The Joy of Childhood – Free Movements program, children with cerebral palsy from different regions of Ukraine have an opportunity to take the rehabilitation course in the International Clinic of Rehabilitation in Truskavets. By now 824 children with various forms of cerebral palsy have taken such a treatment course.

The round table participants have decided on compiling the appeal to the Government of Ukraine which shall take into consideration all suggestions made at the round table and propose the creation of inter-department working group for the study of issue of improvement of situation in the sphere of rehabilitation and treatment of children with disabilities. The working group will work on the provision of quality medical and social rehabilitation of children with special needs and develop the concept of joining the efforts of the government, business and NGO sector for the solution of the mentioned problems.
